Mustangs: ABL CHAMPIONS!!! Behind the strong pitching of David Boelter (NKHS 09) and solid defense, the Mustangs capitalized on excellent base-running and timely hitting as they won the 2008 ABL World Series with a 3-2 victory over the Ramblers. The Ramblers a perennial powerhouse in the ABL and NEAAU proved to be a very tough opponent. The Mustangs scored the first run of the game in the third as Sean Gilman (CHARIHO 10) hit a two out double to extend the inning and scored on a single by Eddie Apice (NKHS 10).In the fourth the Mustangs scored again as Zach Myers (NKHS 09) walked and advanced to third on an over-throw to second on a stolen base attempt and scored on a two out single by David Dwyer (Coventry HS 10). In the sixth Chris Kervin (NKHS 10) singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild-pitch, stole third and scored on a passed ball for the Mustangs 3rd run. Boelter worked into the ninth inning, striking out 11, when the Ramblers finally strung a couple of hits together scoring their first run on doubles by Agulia ad Rodeles. At this point Apice entered the game with one out. The Ramblers Medieros hit another single scoring their second run. With none out and a runner on second Apice struck out one batter for the second out. Adding to the drama Cardoza of the Ramblers walked on a full-count. Messier hit an infield single loading the bases. As he had all year, Apice rose to the occasion striking out the final Rambler batter to clinch the ABL Championship.
